REACTmh® conversation training

Conversation

NHS England & NHS Improvement are working alongside March on Stress to deliver their bespoke REACTmh training, open to all managers, supervisors, and those with caring responsibilities for NHS people, in clinical and non-clinical NHS services, across all NHS, health and care organisations (especially those in areas exposed to high risk of stress, burn-out, and disadvantaged groups during COVID-19).

Underpinned by psychologically-sound principles and the REACT technique – Recognise, Engage, Actively listen, Check risk, and Talk about specific actions – this training will endow you with the skills to:

  • Identify people in your team or community whom may be struggling with their mental health
  • Engage in a supportive well-being conversation
  • Confidently hold the conversation using active-listening skills
  • And signpost them to appropriate support

You will be given the chance to practise these new skills during the training, too.

Sessions are run remotely, via Zoom, for up to 1.15 hours. You are encouraged to browse the available dates and times on Our NHS People website for one suitable for you. The link is available in the box below.

Observe GP — acquire work experience remotely

Student

Within three months of launching, over 10,000 up-and-coming medics have signed up to Observe GP — a learning platform built by RCGP to provide remote work experience. In the place of physical GPs and primary care teams, users can watch an array of videos highlighting the roles these staff members in general practice, using real-life scenarios.

The videos were filmed at Attenborough Practice in Bushey, Hertfordshire; Liberty Road Practice in Stratford, East London; and Sawston Medical Practice, Cambridge, prior to COVID-19’s emergence.

Professor Martin Marshall, Chair of the Royal College of GPs, has said: Observe GP can be used at any time by any one so the limitations of traditional work experience such as schedule clashes and social inequalities are eliminated.

COVID-19 has also presented as a challenge for many students who planned to use their summer holidays to gain relevant work experience but we hope that initiatives such as GP Observe will prove useful in providing an alternative for bright aspiring medics at a time when we’re all working differently.”

The platform will be available until Friday 30 October, when it will be deactivated for evaluation purposes before being re-launched in Spring 2021.

Funding for Masters’-level CPPD in genomics

Learn

HEE’s Genomics Education Programme (GEP) have announced funding for those whom wish to develop their knowledge of genomics and how it can be used in clinical practice.

NHS employees in England may apply for funding for individual CPPD modules, either standalone or up to four (postgraduate certificate) in the first instance. Some funding is available for those wishing to extend a previously awarded qualification, too, subject to the applicant meeting set criteria and funding availability.

The following seven universities have been commissioned to support this opportunity:

Each university is expected to ensure their modules will be open to students nationwide, however, with online options available.

For more information on this funding programme, please click here.
